2020 Alan Clarke retires
The son of a Nottingham coal miner, Alan Clarke joined the export sales department of Sturmey-Archer in 1969. In 1978, he was moved ‘temporarily’ to run their Amsterdam sales office and was still there in 2000 when the Nottingham operation went into liquidation. After helping in the sale of the company to Sunrace Taiwan, he became General Manager of European operations and found customers for Sunrace Sturmey-Archer product, throughout Europe.
He created this site to help preserve the company Heritage and is responsible for every entry. He also helped Tony Hadland write “The Hub of the Universe” book covering the entire history of Sturmey-Archer. Upon his retirement he was presented with a plaque to commemorate more than 50 years’ service.
